Big Sur

Big Sur, California

Big Sur, of all the places I love on the Monterey Peninsula, most defies description.  It must be seen to be understood.  Its physical majesty is beyond imagining and beyond my powers of description.

The time worn cliffs drop to the surf of the Pacific along Highway One, the Pacific Coast Highway  Once seen the remarkable views live in memory forever.

Before we were lucky enough to move here, whenwe were visiting, on leaving here I would carry the memories of Big Sur vistas home with me. We have driven the length of the California coastline and Big Sur provides some of the state’s most memorable vistas. Artists such as Robinson Jeffers, Henry Miller, Edward Weston, Richard Brautigan, Hunter S. Thompson, Emile Norman, and Jack Kerouac were inspired by its remarkable landscape.

My favorite Big Sur place to kick back, have a fun meal, drink some wine and drink in the views: Nepenthe Big Sur
