Carmel Valley
Carmel Valley, California
|
I love Carmel Valley! Whenever we want a relaxing afternoon in the sun, we drive over Laureles Grade and this winding, climbing drive offers some of the most spectacular scenery in our area. On a clear day you can see to the Bay as far as Santa Cruz and beyond. Entering the Valley this way we are transported into a world of rolling ranch land, meadows of wildflowers and…vineyards! Lots of ranches and farms are still to be seen but we go there seeking some of the best tasting rooms in the state of California. Carmel Valley is one of seven appellations which comprise Monterey County's diverse wine country. Carmel Valley’s hot summer weather is especially favorable to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and other red varietals. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel also do very here. |

If your visit to the Valley begins from Rt One to Carmel Valley Road (at the mouth of the Valley), you will find many tasting rooms which are sure to please the palate. 5 Miles up Carmel Valley Road is Chateau Julien. Its tasting room is housed in an elegant French Chateau. Drive further on into the Valley Carmel Valley Village is home to seven tasting rooms: Durney-Heller Estate, Georis Winery, Joullian Vineyards, Talbott, Chateau Sinnet and San Saba.
Our personal favorite for a long, lovely afternoon of great food and wine (and a game of bocce or a massage if you want one) is Bernardus Lodge .
The Carmel Valley Chamber has done a great job of promoting and encouraging business in this area and you will find lots of great little shops and terrific services here. Our vet, Dr. James Holt (who we and our dogs love) is located in the Valley. You will find sunny climes, art, cafes and restuarants, wine (of course!) and a place where time goes just a little slower… in the Valley.
